Shafeqah Bolden

President and Founder
Shafeqah started dancing at the age of five at Bell Dance School. She has studied and trained in ballet, tap, jazz, modern dance, contemporary, African dance, and acrobatics at Sammy Dyer School of the Theatre, Joseph Holmes, Joel Hall, KMG Cultural Dance Program, and University of Illinois at Chicago. She has over 15 years of experience choreographing and instructing students in the areas of modern ballet, lyrical, tap, jazz, and modern dance for competitions and productions. Her dance performances and appearances include Disneyland in California, Disney World in Florida, The Jenny Jones Show in Chicago, as well as performances in Ohio, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas.

She has offered volunteer services for community events, daycares, Chicago Public Schools, sororities, senior living facilities, Red Hat Society, and other dance programs including AfterSchool Matters under Sammy Dyer School of the Theatre and CSU Jr. Dance & Arts Team. Her educational background includes an A.A. Degree in Nursing from South Suburban College, B.S. Degree in Information and Decision Sciences (Information Systems) from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and M.Ed. Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University. After several years of hard work and dedication in teaching dance to youth, she has become an entrepreneur in starting her own dance program, SB Eelite Performing Arts Program in August 2011.

Shafeqah is also a proud teacher and choreographer to SB Eelite students who have earned 1st Place, Overall High Score, Judges, and Costume awards at various competitions including Starbound, Midwest Starz, StarPower, and World Dance Championship. She has enjoyed traveling and exposing the group to various dance experiences and culture through various dance tours such as the Universal Stars Program in Orlando, FL, Nassau, Bahamas, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. She plans to continue exposing her group to future tours throughout the U.S. and internationally while providing various performing arts experiences.

David Bolden

Vice President and Treasurer
David resides as the treasurer and co-founder of SB EElite Performing Arts. He was introduced to performing arts via his spouse; dance instructor and founder of the program – Shafeqah Bolden. David’s eye for the arts developed at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale where he studied photographic production. After college he worked as a photo/video graphic engineer with Shell Development Research in Houston, TX. When David returned to the Chicago area he was placed in the printing industry where he developed his graphic arts skills. He has been employed by Ricoh America for the past twelve years and is currently an Asst Manager at one of their IMS facilities in the downtown area.

Dr. Fonda Karim

Secretary and Assistant Treasurer
Dr. Karim has helped to improve the quality of life for young people in their communities for over 30 years through her work in education, with KMG Cultural Dance Program, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Sammy Dyer School of the Theater (as a member of the Parents’ Auxiliary), the Red Hat Society (Virtuous Women Chapter) and currently with SB Eelite Performing Arts Program. Dr. Karim has volunteered for these organizations in one or more of the following areas which include, but not limited to, sewing costumes, fundraising, participating in food drives, assisting with travel arrangements for performances, assisting with volunteer performances, parade performances, walk-a-thons, and providing backstage assistance during performances.

Dr. Karim’s experiences also include taking dance classes in ballet, jazz, tap, and drama. She has traveled to many parts of the U.S. and internationally to various performing arts events. She also won first place in the adult category of drama at the Regency Talent Competition. She performed at KMG and Sammy Dyer in a leading role in the dramatic production of The Evolution of African American Education. Dr. Karim has also done volunteer work in the independent film industry as a caterer on the set of the film, “Book: The Upgrade" under Grand Sol Productions.

Dr. Karim is currently a board member and an administrative assistant at the SB Eelite Performing Arts Program. She has helped to provide support for SBEelite Performing Arts Program annual performances, outreach community performances, and travel tours. Her educational background includes an A.A. Degree in Secretarial Science, B.S. Degree in Business Education, M.S. Degrees each in Occupational Education and Special Education, and a Ph.D. in Special Education. She was awarded “2013 Educator of the Year” from Phi Delta Kappa.
